Review - The £5 Makeup Product Your Man Has Been Hiding From You!

First things first, primer! Before you even start thinking of your foundation and contour, we always stress that your number one step should be applying a primer to ensure that you will flawless all day long.

We’ve tried them all, from Laura Mercier, Charlotte Tilbury, Make Up For Ever, the list goes on and while we love our trusty primers already, it turns out there’s an even cheaper option that makeup artists and beauty bloggers alike swear by!

@nikkietutorials, founder of Nivea Post Shave Balm - The Primer ;)

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past year you'll know that the beauty world has been hit by a revelation! First introduced to us by the fab NikkieTutorials back in in May 2015, we weren’t sure whether we heard her correctly, an aftershave balm?! Not even that, it’s not Tom Ford, Clarins or another luxe beauty house? No, it’s Nivea’s Post Shave Balm, that’s right and it’s only £5.35!

Nikkie stumbled upon the ‘primer’ by accident when she forgot her own, along with her moisturiser, and decided to give her boyfriend’s aftershave balm a go. That was where it all began bombshells, she was amazed!

The secret ingredient that makes Nivea’s Post Shave Balm so perfect is glycerine, which a lot of primers tend to lack. Glycerine basically makes anything you put on top of it stick to it therefore it reduces the risk of your makeup coming off throughout the day.

@iluvsarahii is a fan!

Whilst this all sounds fabulous, there is a downside, but it’s only a downside for some! It smells like a men’s product, which isn’t really a surprise considering that’s exactly what it is and we’re not sure if this really is a downside because we actually love the smell of men’s products! See we told you it wasn’t that bad!

Nikkie, who we all know is a makeup queen, claimed her makeup has never stayed on so beautifully as it does with the aftershave balm.

@kathleenlights was amazed at the results!

So we decided to give it a go! First of all not only is £5.35 an amazing price for a primer but it’s also 100ml, which is a LOT of primer!

We noticed immediately after application that the post shave balm really cools your face (obviously needed post shave!) and made our skin feel instantly hydrated. Although it is quite a watery and light texture (not really balm like at all actually), it soaked into our skin pretty quick ready for us to apply our foundation.

Kylie uses the 'primer' to combat her oily skin

We know primers all work as the perfect base for your foundation but this really made applying our foundation so much easier! It practically glided onto our skin, meaning we didn't have to use half as much foundation as usual; it's cheaper and we save foundation!

By the end of the day, a long day, our makeup looked just as good as it did in the morning, if we say so ourselves! We didn't notice any of the usual problems, we weren't shiny where we're usually shiny and our makeup wasn't wearing off at all!

Even the girls at Blusho who have oily skin found that there was a huge difference in the staying power of their makeup and it kept their shine at bay.

Results – We were more than impressed that a product this cheap can work even better than most products four times that price! We think we may be purchasing two of these from now on, one for our man and one for our makeup bag ;)
