Halloween - Sugar Skull Makeup Inspiration

Halloween is only 3 weeks away and we have so many fab makeup ideas that we don’t know where to start! So, for the next 3 weeks we are going to be bringing you a variety of Halloween inspired makeup posts to help you (as well as ourselves) in your quest to find the most amazing Halloween look!
This week, we have been going Sugar Skull crazy! If you are after something that is artistic, Halloweeny (is that a word?!), as well as super pretty, then this is the look for you! Originally created for the Mexican holiday ‘Day Of The Dead’ which takes place on November 2nd, Sugar Skulls have slowly but surely made their way into the Halloween makeup world thanks to their creative designs.
We’ve scoured the Internet as well as some of our beloved makeup artists and chosen some of our favourite designs to give you inspiration, let us know which is your favourite!

A Latino inspired sugar skull, we could imagine these in a Dolce and Gabbanna advert! For a gothic but beautiful look the artists used reds and blacks as well as incorporating roses.

Wonderful whites. Going against the white base, this artist decided to use white to draw the features of the skull other than the traditional black. We think it looks so effective, don't you?

@starrlygladue opted for a half skull look but that doesn't mean it's half as good! Oh no, she added large crystals around her eye and did a strong smokey eye on the other side for something super glam!

Wow! Makeup artist @nicolemammonemua has blown us away! Not only did she use gorgeous colourful paints but she also added jewels around her eyes and on her face, we love!

New Zealands hottest YouTube star @shaaanxo went for a beautiful sugar skull using pretty pinks and silver.

Most sugar skulls feature a white or plain base to give that traditional skull effect but not this one by mua @luvekat! For something that really stands out, she painted her whole face and body turquoise as a base and carried the sugar skull down with skeleton body paint!

For a true Halloween inspired sugar skull, makeup artist @misslindsayhancock combined traditional halloween colours such as orange, greens and purples to create this look as well as taking it through to her hair incorporating Halloween objects like candy corn and a pumpkin. That's what we call Halloween dedication!

MUA @misslindsayhancock strikes again! She never fails to amaze us with her creativity and this time she went for something super girly with this purple and pink Barbie inspired skull.

This one is too pretty! We are obsessed with the white lace effect, this would be an ideal look for someone after something a bit girly with lots of detail.

For a look that is a little more subtle, MUA - @bossassmakeup decides to use just half of her face for the look as well as keeping it pretty and colourful.

Halloween wouldn't be Halloween if there wasn't anything scary! Incorporating a traditional skull into this sugar skull look, makeup artist @jamiegenevieve used just white and black to add a touch of horror.

Too gorgeous! Sugar skulls can be created using any colours you like but this all blue look by mua @jackssanchez_ caught our eye! So stunning!

If you are still a bit unsure of how to go about creating a sugar skull why not also watch two of our favourite tutorials below!

We're obsessed with this tutorial by makeup artist @creativeboss. Not only does she create a stunning sugar skull, but she takes it that step further by covering the entire look in rhinestones! You will definitely create a 'wow' factor with this makeup!

For a truly Mexican inspired sugar skull we love this tutorial and look by makeup artist @lolo_love85 created especially for the Day Of The Dead. We adore the blue contoured effect!

Do you think you have what it takes to create an amazing Halloween look that could rival these?! Then why not enter our **Halloween Makeup Competition** to be in with a chance of sharing your look with the world!

Good luck bombshells!
